COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT

Since 1995 CAN has benefited from a team of workers based in small rural centres, much closer to the rural areas which are remote from our Morpeth office. The current team of community development officers comprises of Jane Hart and Melanie Hall (Hexham), Marc Johnson (Alnwick), Louise Currie (Morpeth) and Christine Nicholls (Berwick).

The team’s work involves: giving support to communities and individuals; promoting inter-community co-operation and working collectively with a variety of communities; and working to influence authorities, agencies and programmes on behalf of local communities. Their contributions are numerous: as experts, advisors, fund administrators, hand-holders, sign-posts, critical friends, catalysts … and so on.
