Community energy agents offer specialist support

12th May 2017

CAN will be offering Northumberland residents help in choosing energy sources and providers through new volunteer community energy agents, thanks to a grant from the Northern Powergrid Community Energy Seed Fund (via the Community Foundation).

The grant will fund the recruitment and management of a number of volunteer community energy agents, who will provide local residents with access to information and services to enable them to make informed choices about their present and future energy needs.

The aim is to help vulnerable people understand the energy options open to them (including financial support, energy efficiency measures and alternative fuels), feel more independent, secure and supported, and to have a better quality of life.

The community energy agents will be recruited from local people engaged in our Warm Hubs programme. Based in rural areas of Northumberland, they will work with local organisations including parish councils, community health providers, social group organisers and the Citizens Advice Bureau. The agents will receive training to enable them to provide information and access to a range of services from home safety, to benefit advice and energy efficiency.
